By Dr. Nicole Matejic
Safeguarding National Security Studies explores the challenges facing anyone working across national security-related fields. The book examines how harm, risk, and vulnerability can arise across the research and learning lifecycle, and why these issues are becoming increasingly important across all research ecosystems.
Drawing on case studies, developing scholarship on research security, and perspectives from adjacent fields with longer histories of working with occupationally specific workplace risks, the book explores the challenges facing national security research and examines how evolving risks are reshaping the conditions under which this work is conducted.
The book argues that research security cannot be separated from the people who conduct it, the institutions that incubate it, or the end-users that depend on it. Securing research means safeguarding the entire research ecosystem.
