NatSec Press was founded in 2026 by Dr Nicole Matejic, a researcher, practitioner, and editor working at the intersection of national security research, policy, and practice.
Published by Wiley in 2015, Nicole’s move to founding an independent press was informed by firsthand experience of traditional publishing and a desire to create better pathways for rigorous, practice-facing work.
Nicole’s work spans applied national security research, ethics and governance, and practitioner-focused analysis in high-risk and sensitive domains. She has authored and edited research-informed books and handbooks, advised on research governance and safety, and worked closely with researchers, institutions, and practitioners operating in complex operational environments.
Nicole oversees editorial direction, commissioning, external review processes, and publication standards for all NatSec Press titles.
Advisory reviewers
NatSec Press draws on a small, rotating pool of academic and practitioner reviewers to provide targeted, ad hoc advice and peer review. Advisory reviewers support quality and integrity but do not exercise editorial control.
A note on scale
NatSec Press operates as a deliberately small, independent press. Editorial oversight is centralised to maintain consistency, quality, and accountability. The press collaborates with external contributors, reviewers, and partners on a project-by-project basis.
